Challenge:
A leader in transportation spend management recognized a critical challenge in maintaining oversight of their cloud costs within Amazon Web Services (AWS). As the company aimed to optimize its transportation expenses for clients with complex global supply chains, it became apparent that a lack of visibility into cloud spending was impeding their business objectives. This gap in oversight was contrary to the customer’s mission to provide efficiency and value, necessitating immediate intervention. The organization needed a robust solution to regain control over cloud expenditures and sought a partner capable of integrating FinOps practices to achieve this.
Solution:
In July 2024, the customer turned to SHI, a trusted partner from previous collaborations, for their expertise in cost optimization and managed services. SHI implemented a comprehensive Cloud Optimization Managed Service solution involving the ingestion of data through a third-party tool designed to highlight opportunities for cost optimization, identify spend trends, and establish governance metrics. Other tools used included cost explorer and AWS Cost & Usage Reports. This approach provided the customer with actionable insights into their cloud infrastructure.
A dedicated FinOps resource was appointed to work closely with the customer, ensuring continuous monitoring and analysis of their cloud environment. This collaboration facilitated a detailed understanding of spend patterns and enabled the creation of a detailed workbook that outlined potential cost-saving measures and efficiency improvements. The initiative fostered a collaborative environment, ensuring all stakeholders had access to critical data for informed decision-making.
